Subhash Jengcham (74), a Garo prominent writer and intellectual, has been awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, also known as the ‘Cross of Honor’ by The Holy Papa Francis for his life long dedication and tremendous contribution toward society and church.
‘Cross of Honor’ is the highest honor the Pope can bestow to Catholics for services to the church and society.
Apostolic Nuncio His Excellency Arch Bishop George Kocheri DD has handed over the award to Jengcham on behalf of The Holy Father in presence of His Excellency Bishop Ponen Paul Kubi CSC DD, priests, sisters and hundreds of lay people from Mymensingh Diocese.
Maria Chiran (74), a prominent educationist and former headmistress of Corpus Christi High School, has also been awarded the ‘Cross of Honor’.
Subhash Jengcham, a retired District Registrar, has been awarded for his sincere dedication to the church, Garo community and literature. He wrote several books on Garo culture and tradition. He also translated Garo Customary Laws by Jobang D Marak in Bangla.
Earlier in 2009, Jengcham has also been awarded by Abima Garo Youth Association (AGYA) for his tremendous contribution in writing towards Garo Community.
Garo Community feels proud for him in his invaluable achievement.
