Diplomatic Reporter from Dhaka, Bangladesh
The government has promoted around 267 officials to the position, bringing dynamism to the administration. Most of the promoted officials were senior assistant secretaries of admin cadre, said a handout issued by the ministry of public administration.
However, Drong, Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General, and now a diplomat on deputation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, avails grade-4 rank in his service department while Deputy Secretary position is grade-5! Grade-4 scale rank holders are in between Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary position in Bangladesh Civil Service. It’s not upgradation or promotion for him, in one sense, as he has just switched over from his service cadre to common service pole.
If someone, from any cadre service, wants to switch over to common service pole, Deputy Secretary is the entry post!
Andrio F Drong educated in Biroidakuni High School, Notre Dame College, Dhaka and completed his Masters from Social Welfare and Research Institute, University of Dhaka in 1994 and joined the Civil Service in Audit and Accounts Cadre on 15 November 1995.
Drong is, currently, rendering his service as a Counsellor to the Bangladesh Embassy at Moscow, Russia. His wife Dr. Mukti Areng, children Sunith Areng and Zenith Areng have also been living in Moscow since he joined the embassy.
Drong is the second person among the Garos who have been upgraded to such a high position in the civil service. Earlier, Sebastin Rema had also been upgraded as Deputy Secretary and he is serving at the secretariate in the capital city of Bangladesh.
The whole Garo community feels proud in his invaluable achievement. Social media are flooded with congratulation messages.
